I Me Myself

Well let me begin by introducing myself my name is Tharanya .... it translates to Goddess of the earth.

Born and brought up in Bangalore, I love everything about this amazing city … the perfect weather, the innumerable darshini's that line the road, the fact that the city embraces everyone who wants to be part of it and moreover the traffic because it gives me an excuse to go late to work

I have a close knit family. My father works for Air India and his role is to keep my sister and me  grounded. Leading by example he taught us all the values and morals in life . My mother is a retired banker , which meant that the any pocket money I got was not to be used for all that I wanted, it was meant to be saved. She always knew the price but never the value of my pocket money from my perspective. My elder sister Saranya (my parents are typically Indian and decided their children's' names must rhyme )  is one of my mentor and best friends. And I just got married.

Like every normal child I hated school ! I didnt like waking up so early and cycling upslope for 2kms to reach it. And it didn't help matters I went to one of the strictest schools in Bangalore. My only console was the wonderful  friends I made. I remember giving my first speech when I was in 2nd standard on Porpoises. But the fear of the stage has always haunted me. I was quite confused in school what to take up as a career. I tool up Biology in 10 because I hated computers. After 12th I practically wrote every competitive exam possible : AIEEE , PMPD , JIPMER , NLSIU, KOMED K , CET , TNCET and even SAT. I finally joined an engineering college to which my mom had secretly applied to without telling me !

Life changed  for me was when I stepped into College, It was during college i discovered the real me. I felt i was in a cocoon till then and I metomorphosized in college.  I met my best friends there who I love to bits . I think the best part of college is the fact that you have so many people believing in you , more than you believe in yourself and this confidence is what makes you want to do better.

I remember this particular incident , I have a tendency to day dream .. even in the middle of the exam ! .. so one particular exam in the last semester ... I wasn't particularly well prepared and I just wanted to finish it so that I could begin my vacation ... I ended up answering just 5 of the 20 question in the first 1.5 hrs. Now my best friend is next in roll call ..and he also was the topper of the class... he noticed that i am not writing ... hence he kept requesting for extra sheets and same time he kicked my chair and brought me back to reality. I would have in no way I cleared the exam without his constant reminder.

I discovered the writer in me during the college days thanks to my humanities professor , I realized that I am an able leader during this period when I became secretary of the Literary club and organized fests.

I am sure most of you will agree with me when I say the best part about college and staying in hostel in particular is the amount of free time you get. I remember sipping endless cups of bad coffee and eating slimy maggi , but having the best of endless conversations with friends in the college cafeteria. It now seems like it was a whole different timezone where time decided to give us more minutes per hour. And having a myriad of friends meant there was no dearth for interesting conversation. And listening to the new Airtel ad brings back such good memories

After college, I worked with Greenpeace. I help build a website on Green Living. I was also a part of the outreach team and conducted numerous sessions in various companies to help raise funds. I am an environmental activist and do everything in my scope to conserve it.  During my stint there, TCS gave its call letter and  here I am, in the typical Bangalore life !

I am generally a very happy person prone very much to drama ! Most of my friends refer to me as the drama queen as I generally blow things out of proportion. I live by the principle ' whatever happens , happens for the best' and I make lemonade when life throws me lemons

The things I love to do most are read and eat ! I am a voracious reader. I read everything I can get my hands on, right from tinkle to the latest best seller. I have a huge collection of books, much to the displeasure of my parents who rather wish I spent that time learning to cook and performing house hold chores. I love to eat! I love trying new cuisines in new restaurants, in fact I plan to blog about the various places I have tried in Bangalore, as I've tried almost all of them!
